Terms & conditions

Last updated: 3rd July 2023.

The legal bits are never fun, however, sometimes they are required. Below we have set out the terms and conditions that govern our voucher scheme, they are intended to make processes clearer and to avoid any misunderstandings arising. If you have any questions about any of these or anything else relating to Second Star, please get in touch by emailing hello@secondstar.org.

This page sets out the terms and conditions that govern the Second Star voucher scheme (“the scheme”). It governs the rights and responsibilities of Second Star (“the charity”), the parent or parents (“the parent(s)”), and each partner florist (“the florist”) under this scheme.

The charity reserves the right to update these terms & conditions without notice.

For parents

  1. Once a voucher has been redeemed by the parent(s), it cannot be used again.
  2. The value of any purchases will be deducted from the value of the voucher. No change will be given, and no balance will be retained on the voucher after its use.
  3. The voucher may not be exchanged or redeemed for other vouchers or cash.
  4. The voucher should be treated as cash. The charity cannot be held responsible for any loss, damage, theft, or for any unused value contained on the voucher.
  5. Our partner florists have the right to refuse to accept a voucher as payment or part payment for any goods or services where it reasonably suspects that the voucher has been stolen or obtained in any other illegal manner.
  6. Refunds and exchanges of products or services purchased with the voucher are a matter between the parent(s) and the florist and should be conducted in accordance with the florist’s normal terms of service.
  7. No cash or voucher refunds from the voucher may be issued to a parent.
  8. The voucher expires after a period of 12 months from their date of issue.
  9. If any clause contained with these terms and conditions are found to be unlawful, then that clause shall be considered removed, leaving all other clauses intact.

For partner florists

  1. The voucher must be exchanged for floral arrangement(s). The floral arrangement(s) must be used as part of a funeral service conducted for a baby whose parents are under the care of an organisation issuing the voucher for the scheme.
  2. The voucher must not be exchanged for cash, vouchers, or goods or services which are not covered by these terms and conditions.
  3. It is the responsibility of the florist to check the validity of a voucher. This can be done by entering the voucher code into the checker on the website, this can be found here.
  4. All discussions about the specifics of flowers required as well as delivery of flowers etc. should take place between the parent(s) and the florist.
  5. The voucher entitles parent(s) to a gross spend of £45 on flowers and associated services, the charity will allow an additional 10% upon the gross amount if required. This is at the discretion of the florist. Any additional cost beyond this will be payable by the parent(s) or can be met by the florist at their sole discretion.
  6. The charity will endeavour to pay invoices received from the florist as soon as possible; and aims to pay all invoices received within ten working days.
  7. The florist may, at their discretion, refuse to accept the voucher if they reasonably suspect that the voucher is invalid, stolen, or has been obtained through any other illegal means.
  8. The florist should conduct business with the parent(s) according to their own terms and conditions.
  9. The florist may not issue cash refunds to the parent(s) for any goods or services for which the parent(s) has requested a refund which were initially paid for using the voucher. Any refunds associated with purchases made with the voucher should be made to the charity.
  10. In the event of complaints about work carried out by a partner florist, the charity reserves the right to remove the florist from the scheme. In the event of this, all existing commissioned works under the scheme should continue, but the florist should accept no further vouchers. Complaints received by the charity will be discussed with the florist before any action is taken.
  11. If any clause contained within these terms and conditions are found to be unlawful, then that clause shall be considered removed, leaving all other clauses intact.
